If you’re wondering how to add video reviews to WooCommerce, here’s the short answer: WooCommerce’s review form only accepts a star rating and written text, so you need a plugin that adds video recording or video uploads to that form. With one installed, customers can record a clip in their browser or upload a video they already have. You then approve those reviews and show them on your product pages.
This guide covers the whole process. It explains what native WooCommerce reviews can and can’t do, the two ways customers can submit WooCommerce video reviews, and how to set up, test, moderate, and display them. It ends with fixes for the camera and upload problems that come up most often.
What Are WooCommerce Video Reviews?
WooCommerce video reviews are product reviews that include a short video from the customer, alongside the usual star rating and written comment. For example, a customer might show how a backpack fits, how loud a blender is, how a dress moves, or what came in the box.
Video shows things photos and text can’t: motion, sound, scale, and how a product works in use. That makes customer video reviews especially useful for products where shoppers want to see the product in action before buying, like apparel, gadgets, tools, toys, and anything with moving parts.
If you mainly sell products where a still image tells the story, photo reviews may be enough. Our guide on adding photo reviews to WooCommerce covers that setup.
Does WooCommerce Support Video Reviews by Default?
No. The native WooCommerce product review form collects a name, an email address (for guests), a star rating, and the review text. There’s no way for customers to record or attach a video.
The review settings under WooCommerce > Settings > Products let you enable reviews, show a “verified owner” label, limit reviews to verified owners, and turn star ratings on or make them required. The official WooCommerce product reviews documentation covers each option, and none of them adds video. A customer could paste a link to a video hosted elsewhere into the review text, but that isn’t the same as a video that plays on your product page, and it sends shoppers off your site.
Native reviews vs. video-review extensions
| Capability | Native WooCommerce | Video-review extension |
|---|---|---|
| Star ratings and text reviews | Yes | Yes (built on the native system) |
| Record video in the browser | No | Varies by plugin |
| Upload a video file | No | Yes |
| Play videos on the product page | No | Yes |
| Filter reviews by media | No | Varies by plugin |
| Hold media reviews for approval | Standard comment moderation | Usually, with extra options |
Two Ways Customers Can Add Video to a Review
Video review plugins for WooCommerce generally offer one or both of these options.
Browser (webcam) recording
The customer clicks a button, allows camera and microphone access, and records directly on the product page. There’s no app to install and no file to find, which makes it easy for customers who haven’t filmed anything yet. It needs a browser that supports in-page recording, a camera, and a site served over HTTPS.
Video file upload
The customer picks a video they’ve already recorded, for example on their phone. This suits customers who filmed an unboxing earlier or want to record with a better camera. The trade-off is file size: phone videos can be large, so your server’s upload limits matter.
Offering both gives customers a choice, and the upload option works as a fallback when browser recording isn’t available.
How to Add Video Reviews to WooCommerce
The general process is the same whichever plugin you choose.
Step 1: Check your WooCommerce review settings
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products and make sure Enable product reviews is checked.
- Choose your star rating options and decide whether reviews should come only from verified owners.
- Open a product and confirm reviews are allowed under Product data > Advanced > Enable reviews.
Step 2: Confirm your site is ready for video
- HTTPS: browsers only allow camera access on secure pages.
- Upload limits: check the maximum upload size shown under Media > Add New. If it’s small, ask your host about raising PHP’s
upload_max_filesizeandpost_max_size. - Storage: uploaded review videos are usually stored in your WordPress Media Library, so they use your hosting space and bandwidth.
Step 3: Install a video review plugin and enable video in the review form
Look for a plugin that works with native WooCommerce reviews, supports the video formats your customers are likely to use, lets you cap recording length, and lets you hold video reviews for approval. Install it from Plugins > Add New, activate it, and turn on the recording or upload options.
Step 4: Test recording and uploading
Open a product page in a private browser window and submit a test review both ways: record a short clip in the browser, then upload a video file from your phone. Try at least one desktop browser and one phone. Confirm the review submits and the video lands in your Media Library.
Step 5: Moderate and display video reviews
Decide whether to approve each video review by hand. After approving one, check that it plays properly on the product page on desktop and mobile.
How to Add Video Reviews Using ReviQuo
ReviQuo is a WooCommerce review plugin that adds webcam recording, video file uploads, and photo uploads to the standard WooCommerce review form. Reviews still use WordPress comments and WooCommerce’s review system, so your existing reviews and moderation workflow carry over.
1. Install ReviQuo
With WooCommerce active and product reviews enabled, install and activate ReviQuo.
2. Turn on webcam recording and video uploads
Go to ReviQuo > Review Settings and open the General tab. You can switch each capture method on or off separately:
- Webcam recording adds a Record Video button to the review form.
- Maximum recording length sets when a recording stops automatically: 1 or 2 minutes in the free version, and up to 10 minutes in Pro.
- Video file upload adds an Upload video button for an existing file. Accepted formats are MP4, WebM, and MKV.
Each method has a Require before submitting option. Most stores leave these off so customers can still leave a text-only review. If you require both recording and upload, customers have to provide both, so it’s usually better to require only one, if any.
3. Choose how video reviews are moderated
The Auto-approve videos setting on the same tab is off by default. While it’s off, every review with a video (or photos) is held as Pending until you approve it. Turn it on and media reviews follow your normal WordPress comment moderation rules instead. When a media review is waiting for approval, ReviQuo emails the site’s admin address.
4. Customize the recording window and buttons
The Recording Modal tab controls the recording window’s title, colors, corner radius, and backdrop, plus the Start Recording, Stop Recording, and Add this video buttons. The Appearance tab styles the Record Video and Upload video buttons on the review form. Both tabs include live previews.
If customer photos and videos may show faces or homes, you can also turn on a required privacy consent checkbox with your own wording under Review Settings > Storefront.

What customers see when they record
- The customer writes their review and chooses a star rating, as usual. Review text stays required, so every video review comes with a written summary.
- They click Record Video. A recording window opens and the browser asks for camera and microphone permission.
- After a live preview, they click Start Recording. A timer shows the time left, and recording stops automatically at your maximum length.
- They click Stop Recording, watch the clip back, and either choose Record again or add the video to the review.
- They submit the review.
Customers who’d rather upload click Upload video, choose a file, see its name and a preview, and can remove it before submitting.
Managing and displaying video reviews
The ReviQuo > Reviews screen lists reviews that have videos or photos, with a preview of the first video and a video count for each one. You can approve, unapprove, mark as spam, trash, or restore reviews individually or in bulk.
Once a review is approved, the video appears as a thumbnail below the review text and plays in a lightbox with the browser’s normal video controls. On product pages, the optional Review filters include a With photos / videos option, and the Rating summary shows the average score and star breakdown.
To feature video reviews on your homepage or a landing page, create a saved display under ReviQuo > Review Shortcode. Choose all products or selected products as the source, then add the display with its shortcode, the Product Reviews Gutenberg block, the Elementor widget, or the Divi 4 and Divi 5 modules. The list layout is free, and grid and masonry layouts are Pro.
Pro also adds review videos to WooCommerce’s existing product and review structured data as video objects. As Google’s review snippet documentation notes, valid structured data doesn’t guarantee that rich results will appear.
Best Practices for Collecting Customer Video Reviews
- Ask after the customer has used the product. ReviQuo’s review reminders can send an email a set number of days after an order reaches a status such as Completed, with a review link for each product. The free version includes one reminder rule, and Pro allows unlimited rules.
- Tell customers video is an option. Many won’t expect it. Mention it in your reminder email and near the review form.
- Suggest what to show. A prompt like “Show us how you use it” or “What surprised you when you opened the box?” makes recording less intimidating.
- Keep it short. A short recording limit is easier on customers, your storage, and shoppers watching on phones.
- Keep video optional. Requiring video will stop many customers from reviewing at all.
- Moderate fairly. Remove videos that are inappropriate, off-topic, or show other people without consent, but don’t hide honest criticism.
Common WooCommerce Video Review Problems and Solutions
The Record Video button doesn’t appear
- Check that webcam recording is enabled and your settings are saved.
- Confirm reviews are enabled globally and on that product.
- Some themes replace the WooCommerce review form. Switch briefly to a default theme such as Storefront to confirm.
The camera won’t start
- Make sure the page loads over HTTPS. Browsers block camera access on insecure pages.
- The customer needs to allow both camera and microphone access. If they blocked it earlier, they’ll need to reset the permission in their browser settings.
- Another app, such as a video-call tool, may be using the camera.
- Older browsers may not support in-page recording. The Upload video option is the fallback.
An uploaded video isn’t attached
- Check the file format. ReviQuo accepts MP4, WebM, and MKV. Many iPhones save videos as MOV files by default, which aren’t accepted, so those customers should record in the browser or share an MP4 version. An unsupported file is skipped and the review is saved without it.
- Check your upload size limit and PHP’s
upload_max_filesizeandpost_max_size. Large videos can also hit server timeouts. - Security or firewall plugins may block large uploads from logged-out visitors.
A video review isn’t showing
- It’s probably pending. Check ReviQuo > Reviews and approve it.
- Clear your page cache and CDN cache after approving.
- MP4 and WebM have the broadest browser playback support. MKV files may not play in every browser.
